Licensing Epic Role Playing

Licensing Epic Role Playing

We’re old-school. The best gaming has always been a bubbling cauldron of homebrews and creative riffing. We want our players to take our material and bend as their muses will. So here are our guidelines for using our material for your campaigns, homebrew games, software, and commercial products.

You want to make great things without commercial intent

A campaign on your website, remixed forms, altered maps, or a custom version of Epic, no problem. Share with your friends or the global community of nerds. Just use the creative commons license: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). This lets you share and adapt with attribution, but for non-commercial purposes.

You want to make great things and sell your work

If you want to commercialize your project, you can reach out to the team at Dark Matter Studios (info@epicrpg.com). We love to collaborate on gaming projects. Or, you can use Epic’s Ennie-nominated game mechanics for your project without Dark Matter’s IP (character creation, variants (spells), etc.). If you want to go down this route, read our Open Game License, copy it into your project, and add your own wording to item 15 below.
